The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Sussex County program is a horticultural education, outreach, and service organization administered through Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension (RCE) of Sussex County. Rutgers Master Gardener volunteers are trained from February though June to work in all areas of home horticulture, including ornamental horticulture, lawn care, fruit and vegetable culture, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), identification of common home and garden pests, as well as other topic areas. Each Sussex County Rutgers Master Gardener performs sixty hours of service in an RCE outreach effort. Examples of some service areas include: RCE Garden Helpline, delivering educational and horticultural enrichment programs, demonstration and research gardens.
RCE Garden Helpline
The RCE Garden Helpline (973-948-3040) is available Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Master Gardener volunteers assist residents by diagnosing plant problems, recommending proper horticultural practices and by distributing informational fact sheets offered through RCE.
